The baseline: 250โ300g of meat per adult
For a barbecue that also has bread, salads and sides, plan on 250โ300 grams of raw meat per adult. That is roughly two 150g burger patties, or one patty plus two hot dogs.
Children under twelve eat about half of an adult portion. Teenagers eat more than adults โ count them as 1.5.
Burgers and hot dogs, in units
Most people find it easier to count pieces than grams. Use this as your shopping list:
- Adult with a normal appetite: 2 burgers or 1 burger + 2 hot dogs
- Big eater: 3 burgers, or 2 burgers + 2 hot dogs
- Child: 1 burger or 2 hot dogs
- Always add 10% on top โ someone always brings a friend
Don't forget the bread
One bun per patty, one roll per hot dog, and two spare of each. Brioche buns dry out fast in Egyptian heat, so keep them bagged and in the shade until the grill is ready.
Sauces, cheese and toppings
Count on about 30ml of sauce per person across all bottles, one slice of cheese per patty, and roughly 50g of salad toppings โ lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles โ per burger.
A Grill Box is portioned to these ratios already, which is the whole point: you pick the number of people, not the number of packets.
Common questions
- How much meat do I need for 10 people?
- Around 2.5 to 3 kilograms of raw meat โ roughly 20 burger patties, or 12 patties plus 16 hot dogs, with 22 buns.
- Is 200g of meat per person enough?
- It is enough if you serve generous sides, rice or grilled vegetables. For a meat-led barbecue, 250โ300g per adult is safer.
